Department introduction

The school incorporates human sexuality at other Shu-Te University schools’ curriculums in order to help integrate human sexuality in different academic areas. It integrates sexology in children sexuality education at Teacher Education Center , and Department of Early Childhood Care and Education, in Internet e-learning at College of Institute for Informatics, in product design at College of Design .

By working with the middle and primary schools, clinics, hospitals, community service welfare organizations, religious groups, family planning research institutes, and Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Venereal Diseases, etc., the school focuses on the community development, education, and services to improve the environments of the communities through the understanding of theory and present situations.

The school has already established alliance on research corporation and teachers/ students exchanges with Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality of San Francisco of U.S.A, America Academy of Sexologists , University of Chicago , and Hong Kong University .

After completing the related classes and practice, a student can pursue obtaining the certificates at sexual education, sexual counseling, and sexual therapy domestically and internationally.

Introduction

     Our vision is to foster child care and education professionals with Holistic Education concept to provide child care and educations founded on strengthened society and family.  As the social changes, the family functions also changed and weakened while the Pluralism families emerged.  In recent years, social welfare policy became family oriented and community family service center institutionalized, the need for family service professionals will increase gradually. 

     We were once known as Department of Child Care , focused on fostering child care skills and related professional knowledge.  In light of the deep influences family and community functions have on child development, the department incorporated family and community services into professional training in 2009 and renamed as Department of Child Care and Family Studies.  We are dedicated to provide our students as many meaningful opportunities as we can to lead and serve in diverse cultures and communities and also become more competitive.

A brief introduction of the DAFL

 (Department of Applied Foreign Language ) 

I. The history of our department
The DAFL was established in 1997. At present, we recruit one daytime class of 50 freshmen every year. And we have about 240 students now. The purpose of establishing this department is to train up outstanding foreign language professionals on practical affairs. It expects to afford the increasing needs of many profession and career, such as international business, English commercial correspondence management, bilingual teaching, tourism and traveling, foreign affairs, public relations and reception.

II. The objective and curriculum of education

The major curriculums focus on international business and traveling English. We provide curriculums to learn how to teach English and Chinese too. Besides English, we also offer the second foreign language learning such as Japanese, French, Spanish and Korean. We also instruct and reward students to take the relative exams of English ability and professional certification to promote the competition of obtaining employment.

Besides, we encourage students to take other department’s optional professional courses of other domain in order to integrate the foreign language skills and professional knowledge. It only wants to cultivate the outstanding professionals of foreign language.

III. The distinguishing feature of the department

1. The small group teaching for obligatory courses.

2. We help students to pass the certification exams of international foreign ability (TOEIC, BULATS, TOEFL) and business management (LCCIEB).

3. There is a digital table in every classroom to provide teacher to achieve multimedia assisted teaching.

4. We equip faultless professional oral translation classroom and multimedia computer classroom.

5. According to the result of assessment on student’s foreign language ability, we further carry out the remedial teaching or honor curriculums. 

INTRODUCTION

    The Bachelor Program of Social Work, established in 2015, aims to cultivate talents of social work profession, and with care for life, respect for diverse cultures, enthusiasm and capabilities of service, ethics and attitudes towards social work, and activeness in groups. This program consists of a four-year bachelor program and a two-year college program in the evening, which make graduates eligible social workers after they graduate and are able to take national higher examinations for professional and technical personnel to obtain the certificate of senior social workers or take examinations to work in governments in the field, or run a firm. In the future, they can even become senior social workers specifically for children, teenagers, women and families, those for the elderly, those for the disabled, those for mental hygiene, and those for medical matters, etc.

    This program offers venues for nursing attendant certification examinations approved by the Ministry of Labor, where students can obtain certificates on campus. We also empower students with interdisciplinary modules, dual degrees, minors, etc. for more competitiveness.
